Tannoy IIILZ
This is a pair of Tannoy IIILZ - thought to be from 1967

They were stored on the floor of a shed and the cabinets had patinated fairly heavily over time. It was decided that the restoration should be gentle and should not alter the original finish too much. The goal was to prevent further damage by reattaching peeling veneer and staining the exposed ply underneath to blend in better. This also included keeping the original ripped cloth on the face
The bulk of the work was internal, the crossovers had both seen better days with the values of the components varying wildly from their original specifications. One of the crossovers had also burned out after a particularly bad failure
Along with an original schematic of the crossovers, they were fully restored with new high grade Mills resistors and Solen Polypropylene capacitors
Modern Jantzen binding posts were also installed on the back panel to make them more user friendly

Custom stands were built for the speakers, matching the base dimensions for a uniform appearance. These can either be used to store records beneath the speakers, or can also be covered with the hand made pleated skirt (our favourite part!) for a more decorative appearance. The stands are also on castors to aid easy movement

The full system is joined with a pair of REL Stadium I subwoofers to extend the frequency response from a measured ~65Hz down to an in room response of sub 20Hz
