Satellite 101
Satellite 101 is an interesting concept

A common challenge in speaker design is to have the ability for higher sound pressure levels whilst keeping a favourable sound signature
It is easy to push speakers and make them loud, but it is hard to keep them working comfortably at this point. To get around this, most PA speakers use horn loaded tweeters which whilst very efficient can sound brash and at times piercing. These are then paired with midrange drivers crossed over at a point at which they no longer reproduce sound properly at and so they behave unevenly. The result is a muddled sound that is compressed and even painful
Satellite 101 is a more traditional PA style speaker, but with a soft dome tweeter, designed for power but also the gentle sound signature we strive toward at Night Devices. It allows for a more 'hi-fi' sound profile but with the power of a larger system
Using the same oversized tweeter as in Satellite 061 allows for a slightly lower crossover point than normal, and this avoids the natural breakups that occur at the higher registers of the 10 inch midwoofer
It is ideal as a main channel for larger systems. Think playing out in a bar, or a larger listening room, but it can also equally be used as a critical monitor in larger control rooms
Satellite 101 can also be stacked with Subwoofer 121 or Subwoofer 081 for maximum flexibility

Satellite 101 stacked with Subwoofer 121 - useful for large rooms

Satellite 101 stacked with Subwoofer 081 - useful for midfield applications
They have gone through hours of rigorous testing, both comparatively with our reference audio equipment and also being pushed to very high sound pressure levels to simulate a live setting
To say we are happy with the results would be an understatement - we think all of our initial design concepts have been exceeded
The sound is full bodied and has an abundance of resolution and detail at normal listening levels. These characteristics stay firmly planted as you raise the volume to very high volumes, demonstrating exceptional control
Satellite 101 certainly is a special speaker!
